ON THE LAST DAY OF PRIDE MONTH, EXTREME RIGHT-WING COURT ALLOWS BUSINESSES TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST LGBTQ+ PEOPLE

(June 30, 2023) – Today, the Supreme Court’s right-wing justices ruled that businesses are allowed to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people in their majority opinion in 303 Creative v. Elenis. Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response to the news:

“In a year marred by legislative attacks on trans people and a rising tide of homophobic hate, the Supreme Court’s stolen supermajority has aligned itself squarely with bigots, homophobes, and transphobes. This ruling is a dehumanizing attack on LGBTQ+ people and on anti-discrimination protections writ large. If businesses can weaponize ‘free speech’ to deny service to LGBTQ+ Americans, who will be next? These justices won’t stop trying to move our nation back into the dark ages until we stop them. To protect all of us, we must expand the Court.”
