SUPREME COURT GEARING UP TO LET BUSINESSES DISCRIMINATE AGAINST LGBTQ PEOPLE

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 2, 2022) — On Monday, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis — a frightening opportunity for the justices to roll back LGBTQ people’s rights and open up the door for businesses to discriminate under a false guise of “free speech.” In anticipation of arguments, Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its executive director, Sarah Lipton-Lubet:

“The right-wing Court has teed itself up yet again to strike essential civil rights protections — this time giving businesses the green light to discriminate against LGBTQ people under a false veneer of ‘free speech.’ Justice Thomas made it clear in his concurring opinion in Dobbs that overturning the constitutional right to abortion was just the tip of the iceberg, and that LGBTQ rights would soon be on the Court’s chopping block. And right on schedule, these politicians in robes are continuing their crusade to push us back into the dark ages. But we can stop them. We must expand the Court.”

Take Back the Court raises awareness about the urgent need to expand the number of seats on the Supreme Court to address the theft of the court by Senator Mitch McConnell during the Obama Administration.
