SUPREME COURT SHOCKS NATION BY DOING THE RIGHT THING

(June 8, 2023) – Today, the Supreme Court released its decision in Allen v. Milligan. Take Back the Court released the following statement on behalf of its president, Sarah Lipton-Lubet, in response to the news:

“For 50 years, the Voting Rights Act stood as a pillar of American democracy — until the Supreme Court began systematically dismantling it ten years ago. The Roberts Court has demonstrated its hostility to voting rights and democracy so often that a decision not to further weaken the Voting Rights Act shocks nearly everyone. Today’s ruling is a hard-won victory for everyone fighting to maintain what’s left of the VRA, led by Black organizers across Alabama and beyond. But democracy cannot thrive with a Supreme Court that shocks us when it upholds our most fundamental rights rather than continuing to strip them away.”
